direct to garment printing

Direct to Garment Printing

by MCM Marketing Team on September 30, 2010

Direct to garment printing is making headlines again. The latest news is the advancements in the printers and now DuPont is making major improvements in the ink.  When you combine the two, the results provide amazing color, higher resolution, remarkable half tones and brilliant color vibrancy. We are talking Full Color Photo Grade here.

It actually gets even better. You get an image that traditional silk screening can’t touch and this can all be done in small quantities. Our favorite printer Dave Deem’s new tag line is, “From One to Infinity”.  Dave is a very technical direct to garment printing guy and he will quickly point out that a cost effectiveness “crossover”   is around 72 pieces.   The variable is the size of the imprint. He is also quick to point out another bonus which is no screen or set ups charges with direct to garment printing.

I asked Dave if direct to garment printing stands up after repeated washings. The new ink should offer excellent “washability.”  In lay speak, that’s about 30 washings or the equivalent to silk screening. There is also an “eco” twist to these new water based inks are both VOC and Phthalate free.

At MCM we see an incredible creative opportunity here. For the past decade direct to garment printing was predominantly used by heavy metal bands and bikers. It’s a hard to explain artistic paradox. Now you can print high resolution full color photo quality art on the venerable t-shirt and you won’t have to worry about your artwork getting blurry the way it did with silk screen.

We are ready to get you started with your direct to garment project. Give us a call at 888-344-6060 or e-mail us at sales@mcmproductions.com
